General
Name: Kuma
Alias(es): Tsuchi no Akuma (Demon of Earth; also a pun on his name, Kuma, which means bear ((as in the animal))) ; Shogi no Kuma ; Yondaime Tsuchikage
Age: 51
Gender: Male
Specialty: Summoning Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Strategy.
Rank: Kage
Home Village: Iwagakure
Current Village: Iwagakure
Organization: Iwagakure Tsuchikage
Personality: Quiet, stern, wise, and slow moving in general. He is a massive man who seemingly is in constant thought and rarely speaks, and even more rarely speaks without some long earned wisdom behind his words. A fabled strategist who was able to maintain his village during the war (though it is noted that they didn't play a large role int he conflict) he is also the last remaining fourth generation Kage left and has served in his position for many years, dating back before the war. He is a kind man, and though his wise nature lead many to come to him, many fear him as well as a large and fearsome warrior of old. His speech has been affected by a deep scar left in his throat, making him speak all the more slowly and carefully. He is the type to seem weary and cautious about every detail; and the type to never miss an opportunity. He enjoys playing games of strategy, and is considered a master of Shogi, boasting a nearly undefeated record across his lifetime. They say the only man to have beaten him was his Sensei, who taught him the game when Kuma was a child.
Hair: Jet black and about shoulder length, untied, its pushed back, sprawling out over the back of his neck in a curtain. It seems slick and clean, blemished only by a pair of gray streaks that run from top to bottom, parallel to each other in the back, with a slight gap between them.
Eyes: A deep shade of reddish-brown that gleams like polished wood. The eyes are tired and worn, but bright with knowledge and perception. They seem to reflect memories of things long forgotten.
Height: 7'4"
Weight: Unknown; but heavy. You'd best believe it. (S'all muscle too. )
Clothes: Dresses in a manner similar to a Native American style, in simply but finely made brown pants and vest with sandals. Finely woven bead work is woven into both, on his back and along the sides of his legs in a vibrant design. In the front is a one sided 'shirt' woven of fine fabrics in a design of the face of the Elder Rock God of Iwagakure; commonly warn by warriors seeking the blessing of the Gods. The top has a leather strap at its top that ties around the neck, holding it in place. In his hair, Kuma wears a hairband with bead work similar to that of his vest and pants, but arranged in the design of reading the kanji for Tsuchikage; obviously his choice replacement for the hat commonly worn by the other Kage.
Other (Appearance): Has a variety of scars, most notably a large, horizontal gash across his throat that leaves him with a heavy speech impediment. Most of the rest are smaller and varying in size; the only other noticeably large one being a round indenture on his chest, as though he were pierced by something quite large once.

Biography
Family History: Kuma comes from a long line of shinobi of high standing in Iwa (and known for being well in tune with the Gods and spirits, a likely reason they're all named for animals). Many served high positions in the village in their time, but Kuma was the first Tsuchikage of his clan. His parents have died of old age, but were well known in their time. Through strength, wisdom, and determination, the village has avoided many catastrophes and have rarely faced any particular form of tragedy worth noting.
Character History: Kuma was born of a highly powerful and respected clan, and rose to meet their standards, if not exceed them. Involved in many battles, he proved himself and became Tsuchikage by the age of 30, and has remained in that position since; some 21 years now. He is most notably known the for the strategies he employed to protect his village and remain both a part and apart from the war. He is well known throughout the other lands for being a wise and strong leader, and the last of the fourth generation of Kage; and the eldest aside from the feeble Raikage, whom many believe has already effectively passed power to his daughter.
Combat Information
Weapons: Caltrops, Wire, Explosive Tags, Smoke Bombs, and Shuriken. Yeah, basically everything one could need.
Extra Items: N/A
Scrolls: One massive scroll on a leather strap that Kuma carries by hand; though intensely large, to compare with his own size it seems almost like a normal scroll. Around its outer layer, a variety of kanji are marked, each indicating the name of a different piece involved in the game of Shogi.
Kekkei Genkai
Setotaisho - The technique passed through Kuma's clan, it enables the manipulation of statues formed out of a special type of chakra infused rock. Considered by some to be similar to the puppet technique of Suna, it differs in several ways; no strings are required, as the statues act of their own semi-programmed will. They can only operate for a certain amount of time, and have abilities limited to their initial design, which is sculpted by the user at a young age when he is considered ready to begin mastery of the ancient technique. They can be repaired, but it is a time consuming process impossible during combat. Under certain circumstances, also influenced by the design of their user, these stone warriors can provide other abilities to their master, but the total potential of this is yet unknown by most.
Standard Jutsu
Replication Technique
Ninjutsu
~ The ninja creates a replica of themselves. The replica disappears on contact but can be useful in causing distractions or setting up complex attack maneuvers.
Replacement Technique
Ninjutsu
~Changes the ninja's position with a nearby in-animate object. Usually a section of log. Higher skilled people can exchange themselves with another person or other such things. Useful for dodging techniques.
Immitation Technique
Genjutsu
~The ninja creates the illusion that they are another person or object. Can be dispelled by the Kai technique.
Kai - Release
Genjutsu
~A simple technique that allows the user to break enemy genjutsu by focusing their chakra to disturb the other's flow. Can only be performed on jutsu within reasonable range of the user's skill.
Escape Technique
Ninjutsu
~A very simple technique that allows the user to escape from ropes or bindings.
Summoning Technique
Ninjutsu
~ A common shinobi technique that allows the user to summon animals, weapons, people, or other objects through the use of scrolls or other special items. A blood contract is typically required to use these technques properly, though a scroll isn't always necessary.
Headhunter Technique
Ninjutsu
~A fairly basic earth style ninjutsu, the user can project themselves or, in Kuma's case, one of his statues beneath the ground for a sneak attack on an enemy from below.
Elemental Jutsu[/u]
Earth Style - Spherical Ensnarement
Earth Ninjutsu
~A technique of varying scales depending on the situation, the earth below the target collapses while the ground that had been below shifts outward and upward, forming a large rock ensnarement.
Earth Style - Boulder Detonation
Earth Ninjutsu
~Causing a large buildup of chakra in an area below the ground, effectively making into a large earth landmine. The ground bursts violently upon activation, sending a horrific wave of debris on the enemy that soon after comes crashing back down for a second attack.
Earth Style - Giant Mud Wall
Earth Ninjutsu
~A technique that emerges from a stream of mud fired from the mouth that solidifies quickly, building up into a massive wall, useful for blocking attacks and advancements, altering the terrain in general for strategy, or providing an escape route from on high. The size of it can be altered by the will of the user.
The Setotaisho
Fuhyo - The Pawn
~The lowest of the Setotaisho, The Pawn is designed like a simple warrior, lightly armored, carrying a plain sword. Kuma has several of these prepared for combat, useful for fighting weaker enemies, buying time, or feint strategy. Moderately low speed and strength, mostly used for linear attacks, and nothing fancier.
Kyosha - The Lance
~A quick but very linear Setotaisho, The Lance is designed like a horse mounted warrior with a spear, very lightly armored, to enable faster movement. It can charge forward with surprising speed to impale enemies, and is excellent for small pathway fighting, or surprise attacks, thanks to its head on speed and strength. It requires considerable time however, to get itself turned around and prepare its next attack, so after one use, often times it finds itself being assaulted; from behind, it is practically defenseless, aside from a bit of flailing of the butt of the spear.
Keima - The Knight
~A unique piece, designed another horse mounted troop, but less decorated, wielding a small sword instead. The horse bucks wildly, leaping into combat and kicking enemies while its rider cuts them down. Its ability to leap and traverse less favorable ground makes it more useful in many situations than The Lance, but over long distances it struggles, as it can't run nearly as fast and usually swerves in excitement.
Ginsho - The Silver General
~A heavily armored, large warrior, wielding a large spear, decorated with feathers towards its head. A bit slow, but having a wide range of skill and power, it is capable of fairly versatile attacks, making short work of anything that comes in front of it. Being on foot, it is more capable of defending its back, though direct attacks can still prove difficult, any attack that comes from its corners can be handled in one fell swoop.
Kinsho - The Gold General
~A very large and heavily armored warrior, wielding a massive battle axe. Extremely powerful and formidable, The Gold General is known for massive attacks that cover nearly the entire circumference of its range. Very skilled, there is little to nothing that comes into its range that it cannot combat, be it from the front, sides, or back. However, its heavy armor and weapon makes it slow for general travel; and is more the type to have the enemy come to it, or used when one has already been trapped or cornered. Often times its found towards the back, being used to aid defending Kuma while he prepares other attacks and strategies.
Kakugyo - The Bishop
~Designed like a sort of monk or bishop, carrying a very long staff. It is talented in both-side attacks, thrusting the staff one way and then back in the opposite. The sheer size of it and the frail nature of the statue makes it much more suited to this, using momentum to attack, then trying sweeps and other forceful moves; thus it has difficulties attacking groups. It can move quickly, being practically armor-less, but can't readily attack while moving. Another more defensive piece, usually watching Kuma's sides.
Hisha - The Rook
~A fairly mobile unit, designed like a horse drawn chariot, heavily armored with rock, making it appear to be a small, mobile building. Inside, attacking from the slots on each side of the 'building' is an archer, stationed from the inside, who can fire in any of the four typical directions with deadly speed and accuracy. While it can move decently, angling itself if need be, the weight of it does slow the horse down, so it can't move nearly as quickly as its other horse using pieces.
Osho - The Reigning King
~This role is played by Kuma himself, who creates strategies, fights, lays traps, and controls the other pieces when need be; though often they operate on their own, manipulated only by chakra and his general 'will'. His ultimate ability lies in the art of Promotion, which occurs when a certain piece is capable of scoring a worthy enough attack on an enemy (the blood flow activates their ability) or simply by surviving an amount of time on the battlefield without being destroyed (the time varies, where weaker pieces need survive less time, as they obviously aren't as capable of holding out). Each piece has a unique Promotion that, when activated, will crumble the particular piece, but supply Kuma, the King, with a new ability in the form of armor formed from the Setotaisho's remains.
*Note - The Promotion abilities will be described later, as necessary, in a separate section.
