Niniji took a step back, hair falling back over his face as his smile faded. What in god's name was this? He could feel something there; it felt dark. He glanced over at his partner; this didn't seem like something he wanted to get involved in. Murasaki-san never said anything about something like this.
"....I don't feel it's particularly wise for me to pursue this any further, Fenrir-san." He called out, seeming less than perturbed about it. He hadn't wanted to do this in the first place after all.

Fenrir instinctively leapt back, obviously having not expected such a reaction either. She knew they had been after the boy, and the other targets, for some odd reason, but...was it this power? As if the marksman hadn't made things difficult enough...
"Tch. Retreat for now then, lest this grow further out of hand." She lifted her hand, the broadsword flying into her grasp easily. She gave a wary eye to the nameless man before vanishing in a puff of ninja smoke to hammer space.

The monk had vanished likewise before the marksman could turn his sword against him, leaving him alone with the silent young boy.
"Kid, you can power down now." He stated warily, eyes now on the odd glowing aura around him and sword still in hand; some innate instinct kept him from resheathing it in the current situation.

The air remained dense for a moment, chakra fluctuating wildly, slowing down only after a long moment of silence. It felt like a much longer time than it really was before the boy's body relaxed, having calmed the dual beasts inside him with some struggle indeed.
Finally he sighed, stabbing his large weapon into the ground and leaning against it, shaking his head. Way to ruin a perfect evening, hm?
"Thanks." He stated calmly, glancing over at the unfamiliar man though a shock of dangling red hair, deeply contrasting the blue that covered the rest of his head.

The man nodded slowly, continuing to watch the boy for a moment before re-sheathing his blade. Scratching at his scraggly head, he looked back at where the two enemies had been, sighing heavily. All so troublesome. Ah well.
He sighed again, looking over at the kid. Best to take care of more important things first.
"No problem kid. I'd be more worried about you at the moment. You okay?" He swaggered over, stooping down a bit to get a look at his eyes; it made him wince slightly. Such a striking, quiet blue...

He peered back the man, his one good eye bright and firm. He was a bit tired, but luckily it hadn't escalated fully. He nodded, pulling the shaft of his harpoon back to let it lean against his shoulder. Obviously, not the type for many words.
"What brings you to these parts?" He asked, firmly, but a bit awkwardly, as though he wasn't entirely sure what to ask unfamiliar people. Indeed, it had been a rather long time since he had really spoken to another person.

"Jus' happened to be traveling through." He replied offhandedly, eyes squinting at the boy for a moment before wandering off toward the deep blue sky. "I'm pitched up in a cave over this ridge. 'Smelled that roast and jus' came to see what it was. 'Spotted them skulking out in the shadows out that way, looking this way, figured I'd stick around jus' in case."
He shifted his weight about, hands idle in his pockets as his eyes drifted about before landing back on the boy; he made him a bit uneasy now that he got a good look at him. Like some sort of odd deja vu.
"You got a name, kid? Or any idea why that crazy sword lady and ghost monk were after your hide?" He had an inkling as to why just from that show-stopping tail thing the boy had pulled off.

Genji nodded slightly, lifting his hand and brushing his cheek with his thumb, having examined the man carefully. He seemed genuine enough, from his body language. A bit odd, but...there was something comfortable about his presence.
"Genji." He stated firmly, allowing himself to lean back a bit, stretching. There was a notable height difference between them that enhanced the vibe that came from the man. Something almost parently about him.
"The beast?" He added, suggestively; obviously hinting that he had no real idea in mind, but that seemed to be the most plausible point. After all, there wasn't much else particularly interesting about Genji, aside from...the other beast. But one hardly seemed as noteworthy as the other.

"Beast, eh...?" He stated it idly, not really questioning the boy's answer so much as just pondering it aloud. Made sense with that huge energy he gave off with that move; sounded like something he'd been dealing with awhile (not so much the attacks, since the boy had seemed rather stunned when the two had sprung on him), so there probably wasn't anything he could do about it. "Hm~ Watchu doing out here in the middle of nowhere anyway, kid? Your mom and dad are probably worried about you right now."
His dark eyes drifted back to the boy, a small smile dashing across his lips. Cute kid; quiet and strong. He imagined Satoshi would be much like that by now, roughly the same age as well.

"Dead." He stated plainly, putting his free hand on his hip, his face as stoic and cool as ever. Obviously, this too was something he had been living with for quite some time. True, he knew that he could probably live in the village if he wanted...they had generally been welcoming to him. But it was simply easier not too. He was too much of a liability to their safety...
"I go where the herds lead." He added, in case as much hadn't been suggested enough from his previous statement. A simple life, but a content one for the most part. Essentially, he had everything that he needed...

"Well, gotta respect that." The man replied, a small, sympathetic smile twitching at the corners of his lips for a moment. "S'always a shame when kids gotta deal with loss like that. Jus' what this world's comin' to~"
He sighed exaggeratedly, scratching the back of one leg with the other for a moment as he stared off.
"Hm... name's Ootsuki Takahiro," he stated suddenly, glancing back at the boy. He started rummaging through his pockets for a moment before one of the pouches on his side started to shiver on it's own; after a small pause, a pack of cigarettes pushed itself out of the flap. He pinched the pack between his fingers and tugged it out, a small lump of squiggling brown fur clinging to for a moment before flinging itself haphazardly onto his chest. The small mouse scuttled up to his shoulder, perching and smoothing it's fur for a second before peering inquisitively at the boy. "Ah, and this here's Nez. She's the one who sniffed you out to begin with." He lit a cigarette, then rubbed the little rodent's head affectionately with a finger. "Prolly just wanted some of your food since she don't like my cookin', but she's outta luck since your dinner was ruined. Huh."

Genji smiled slightly. An odd pet for the man to have, but it was endearing as well. Rubbing his cheek for a moment, Genji stepped over towards the rock he had been resting against, picking up a pouch that he had set aside earlier. He produced some jerky from it, that he had kept aside for times such as this. He did his best to preserve what he could of his catches here and there. One could never be sure when the next catch would come, after all.
He stuck a piece in his mouth, holding it between his teeth and holding some out to the man and, of course, his mouse.

Takahiro waved a hand dismissively, nodding in appreciation at the gesture.
"Not much of one for dried meat. Tastes funny." A bit of a smirk twitched on his lips for a second at his own humor before he closed his eyes, exhaling a plume of smoke. Nez twitched her little paws out for the food, giving up after a few seconds of straining. There was always food back at camp. =P "Hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you plan to do about the lady and the monk? Not to say you can't handle yourself, but... you are just one kid."
He opened one eye lazily, pulling the cigarette from his lips and exhaling again as he studied the boy. This kid did seem strong enough to handle himself out here in this rough sort of terrain, but he couldn't stay on guard for the rest of his life watching out for these people; for some reason, Taka felt a little pang of worry for him. Poor kid had no family or friends to watch his back after all, and with eyes like the boy had, it made things so much more troublesome for Taka to just ignore his plight.

Genji nodded slightly, replacing the jerky into his pouch and taking a moment to literally chew the question over. He shrugged a bit, rocking his weapon back and forth idly, digging it further into the ground.
"The village could provide cover, but the trip will take a few days. Longer, probably, if they expect as much and attempt to cut me off." He glanced over at the man shrugging in a 'what can you do' sort of manner. Obviously, avoiding the duo would not be a simple task, if they really had it out for him.

"Ehhh, it'll turn out fine. Kinda cowardly bunch if they'll only attack at night when you're chillin', I'm sure they wouldn't fare as well if you saw them coming." He rolled his head around some, balancing haphazardly on one foot as he spoke. After a moment he stopped, opening both eyes and dropping his cigarette to grinding into the ground below with his foot. "Anyhow, I was headed up that way, too. If you don't mind it, we could tag along. Can't say much for Nez, but I'll help out should those other kids try and hop on you again. In the very least, company for an old man would be appreciated. Company that won't steal what bread and soup we have."
His eyes narrowed at the small mouse, who darted around his back to avoid such a crushing stare.
